Panasonic, DoCoMo, NEC and Fujitsu create IP for multi-standard LSI chip; supports LTE, GSM, W-CDMA and HSPA+

Marvell was first to introduce a single-chip LTE world modem with support for multiple mobile standards late last year, and now Panasonic Mobile Communications, NTT DoCoMo, NEC and Fujitsu have developed intellectual property (hardware and software) for something similar of their own. Specifically, the quartet has gone further with the chip aspect, though. They've tested an "engineering sample" of a the large-scale integration chip (pictured) for modems in mobile devices, and claim that it uses twenty percent less juice than larger two-chip designs. That consolidation, also makes it cheaper to produce. Past that, the chip has successfully provided "interconnectivity between the mobile networks of major vendors," getting it a step closer to production. The silicon lets modems play nice with FDD-LTE, TDD-LTE, GSM, W-CDMA and HSPA+, specifically, and LTE-Advanced support is in the cards for the future. Although Panasonic, DoCoMo, NEC and Fujitsu are the main partners, other "major players" are said to be on board for a "joint venture," with the goal of commercializing it in countries outside of (and including) Japan. The word's mum on when we can expect the chip to make it past the sampling phase, but in the meantime, hit up the press release after the break for more knowledge.

Sony & Tokyo Institute of Technology create 14x faster wireless chips

A new wireless chip setup jointly designed by Sony and the Tokyo Institute of Technology could push the transfer speeds of wireless routers up by a significant amount in the coming years. The new design combines two chips to drastically improve wireless speeds.

This new wireless design has two chips which combine to push a transfer date rate of 6.3Gbps. To put that number into perspective, it is approximately 14 times faster than what is currently available today. Sony?s press release says,

?implementation of this technology will enable users to transmit and receive data at much higher speeds between mobile devices without the need for cable connections. This technology will also enable users to enjoy uncompressed high-quality video streaming from a mobile device to a display.?

This means that if this design can be pushed into consumer grade devices, we could have the ability to stream an uncompressed rip of a Blu-ray film from a mobile phone or tablet directly to our TV or media box. The very prospect of that is exciting, but it would mean I would need a whole lot more storage to hold uncompressed rips of films.

The radio frequency chip in this duo was developed by Professor Akira Matsuzawa, Associate Professor Kenichi Okada, and others at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Sony developed the other chip which is a very low power baseband chip. Sony also oversaw all chip?development?on the project.

To get a bit technical the RF chip operates millimeter-wave?60GHz band (2.16GHz per channel) which uses 802.15.3c standards. The only issue with this is the range of that standard is significantly lower than those of 802.11n or the upcoming 802.11ac. I would be interested to see what the range Sony promises for this chip is. I can see something like this being useful in a home environment but it might not be as useful in very large buildings if the range is short.

Sony?s press release doesn?t give any sort of timetable to when we might see this technology make its way to consumer devices. I can?t imagine it would be any time in the very near future so until then I?m going to dream of ridiculously fast transfer speeds in my own wireless media setup.

The TRUTH about cholesterol and heart disease - Fitness and ...

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States; one in every three deaths is from heart disease and stroke, equal to 2,200 deaths per day!

And it?s TOTALLY preventable.

Since February is ?heart month? I want to share with you some pertinent information (from my friend and sought-after holistic nutritionist, Yuri Elkaim) relating to this important organ that keeps on ticking without you having to tell it to.

I?m sure you?re aware that there is a lot of CONTROVERSY about what causes heart disease, right?

One of the biggest controversies and myths has to do with cholesterol?

Is high cholesterol to blame?

Well, as early as 1936, researchers in the journal Archives of Pathology failed to find any correlation between cholesterol and heart disease.

A later study in 1962 published in the American Heart Journal found that among 106 cases studied, the level of dietary cholesterol did NOT affect plaque formation in the arteries.

Evidence from the August 1964 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association revealed that:

* There is no clear correlation between blood cholesterol levels and the nature and extent of heart disease.

* Cholesterol levels in and of themselves are meaningless.

? 1,700 patients with heart disease analyzed clearly show more heart-related disease with cholesterol between 1 and 250 than between 300 and 400 or higher! (an inverse correlation).

Pretty crazy, right?

Do you know your cholesterol levels?

Any even if you do, do they really even matter?

Well, not really.

My good friend, Yuri Elkaim tells me that there are really just 2 numbers you need to worry about with respect to your cholesterol.

And they are?

1. HDL/Total Cholesterol should be 25% (more important than basic LDL levels)

2. Triglycerides/HDL should be below 2.

Check with your doctor if you want. If they know anything about the current literature, they?ll be amazed at your knowledge.

My question to you is this?

If you didn?t know this information about this ONE topic?

What else don?t you know about your health and diet?

There?s probably a lot that you don?t know about.

And that?s fine.

But it?s also not your fault.

There is far TOO MUCH nonsense and conflicting information out there to begin with. You?re probably just sick and tired of it all. I know I am.

That?s why I HIGHLY recommend you learn more about Yuri?s Super Nutrition Academy.

Review: The Secret World of Arrietty Movie | MidgetMomma

I?have been sharing with you all this week the movie clips and then this morning I shared with you an interview with and now I get to tell you all about the movie! The kids and I went last weekend to see it and all 3 of them loved it!

Have you ever heard the story of the Borrower, you know the little people that live in the floor and when they need things they ?borrow? them from us, the human beings, or as they call humans ?beings?. The Secret World of Arrietty brings you into their world, the world of the little people who live under the floors of homes and are always cautious that they might be seen.

Sho, the young boy who is staying with his aunt Sadako, and the housekeeper Haru because he needs to rest before he has heart surgery sees Arrietty in the garden as he arrives to the house. That is the first time that Sho sees Arrietty, the next is during her first trip borrowing and she then drops a block of sugar. A friendship is formed between the two of them when Sho puts the sugar with a note outside for Arrietty, and that causes fear to run through the borrower?s household because their worst nightmare has come true with being seen.

Though there is no crazy action scenes my kids loved it, my daughter who is 6 said she wanted to go home and see if we had any little people living under our floorboards, the movie brings a wealth of imagination to the kids and adults who see it. It brings back hand drawn animation which I really enjoyed. I love computer animation but there is just something that the hand drawn animation does with this film.

A surprising and wonderful message of finding friendship in places that you would not expect is found in this movie and a?message?of being tolerant of those that are different from you is brought out as well. With so many differences among people in the world, including in schools, the message of being tolerant of those that are different from you and that you never know who may end up being a great friend to you I think is very important.

The Secret World of Arrietty is a great family film that both parents and kids will enjoy, I am even thinking of going to see it again and having hubby come with us since he didn?t get to go when we went to see it.

?

Disclaimer: I?received?tickets to see this movie, I was not compensated for this review. All opinions are my own.
